Burnaby Fall Prevention Society
Edmonds Community Resource Centre

Burnaby, BC V3N 4Z6

Here is an opportunity to join a very active volunteer organization that has the best interests and healthy living of seniors at heart. It's the Burnaby Fall Prevention Society. The mission of the BFPS is to educate seniors about the risks of falls and how to prevent them through education, exercise, environment and behaviour modification. The organization sets up informative displays at various local events, organizes Train the Trainer sessions with health professionals and goes out into the community to teach seniors who then help others. They work and coordinate activities with many of the ethnic groups in Burnaby.
Starting in July, they will finally have their own office space in the Edmonds Resource Centre at Canada Way and Edmonds. This will be a big step forward for the organization. Because of this, they are looking for volunteers interested in office management, helping at special events and also at the Board level. They are a very grass roots organization and many of the volunteer positions would be of interest to teachers, health professionals and administrators.

These organizations are all linked through theGoVolunteer website which makes volunteering really easy. I was amazed, and continue to be, by the number and variety of jobs available. Everything from one or two day special events to short term positions (up to 3 mos.) and long term (6 mos. +). Some of the positions are "flexible" - work from home? Defintely worth a look!
The GoVolunteer site lists opportunities from all over BC and includes Alberta as well.
Here's your opportunity to meet new people, get out of the house and/or try something new!
If you're looking for volunteer work on a more national scope, i.e., elsewhere in Canada, then head for theVolunteer Canada website. There you'll find links to volunteer organizations in all provinces and territories. Nunuvat here we come!!
