The Ucuelet trip was a success with 8 couples attending. We stayed in two rental houses (owned by a BCIT grad), 5 couples in one on the waterfront and three in a second a few blocks away. Julie, bubbly, hardworking local entrepreneur provided three generous breakfasts and two tasty dinners. Our group sampled various local restaurants on the second night, when the dinner was not laid on.

Because we were there "off season" there was little interest in the usual organised tours, so couples did "their own thing" with numerous interesting hikes, beach combing, and storm watching being the most popular. Others went to a local fish hatchery where they could see incoming spawning salmon and the black bears feasting on them. The weather cooperated for all of these activities by being pleasant for the travel over to Ucluelet on the Monday, and back on Thursday; nice and sunny for hiking and beach combing on Tuesday, and wet and blustery for storm watching on Wednesday, giving us a good appreciation for the variability of the rugged Westcoast weather.

The other most notable feature of the trip was the very good fellowship, as the group met and mingled before, during, and after mealtimes, just visiting, or exchanging info on the trails, features, and eateries sampled. We are looking forward to offering more of these excursions in the future, possibly one for wine touring in the "Wine Islands".
